Joe’s Garden

In from a crowded suburban road
A scent of wild rose leads
The humble passer-by into an
Enchanting oasis

Here recycled tools and iron artefacts
Heighten one’s awareness
Of an exciting blend
Of garden flowers and beneficial herbs

Carefully chosen horticultural rarities
Mix in a fascinating way
With friendly kitchen garden items
All standing in readiness for a useful future

So Joe’s expert touch makes
Everything hold together
Rosemary and tomato
A piece of the countryside
Magically transported into
Greenford’s busy streets

Could be me, could be you, could do better?

I’m for the guy that’s on the run

The outward traveller the homeless one

Whose life is hard?

And not much fun

I’m for the girl who’s a mental health user

A victim of violence and sex abuser

Who left home to become a mother?

But at the hospital could not recover

I’m for the new kid on the block

The fretting youth with the acne spots

Life’s learning curve is quite a shock

‘’ Avoid the school of hard knocks’’

I’ll raise glass to the underachievers

The ones who should be self-believers

Whose life is hard but cold be better

The moral of this poem is

Love your yourself, and love your neighbours

You couldn’t do better!
